Sedation dentistry
Sedation is not simply awake or asleep; it is a range, from light laughing gas to deeper options, that helps anxious patients get the care they need comfortably. Dr. Monzer Shakally explains the levels in the video below.

Sedation is a spectrum, not an on/off switch. Think of it like a ladder, from mild laughing gas that keeps you relaxed and aware, up to deeper sedation. We match the level to you and the procedure.
A lot of what makes dentistry unpleasant is anxiety, not just discomfort. Easing that anxiety lets you get through treatment calmly, and many patients are surprised how smooth it feels.
Generally, the lighter you stay on the ladder, the lower the risk. We choose the least amount of sedation that will keep you comfortable for what you need done.
For anything short of deep sedation, you are technically awake and breathing on your own, just very relaxed and often remembering little of it.
They depend on the level. Laughing gas wears off in minutes with little more than some tingling. Deeper options require fasting and a driver, which we go over ahead of time.
Just tell us. It is not taboo, and we would rather know you feel anxious so we can help. We will talk through the options that fit you.
